ZARAGOZA
Zaragoza is consolidating its position as Spain's foremost inland logistics and industrial construction hub in 2026, capitalising on its unique geographic location at the heart of the Madrid-Barcelona-Bilbao triangle. The PLAZA logistics platform — already Europe's largest in terms of surface area — is undergoing a major expansion, with 14 new warehouse and distribution facilities totalling 380,000 square metres currently under construction across its eastern extension zone.
The automotive sector continues to drive a significant portion of Zaragoza's industrial construction activity. Stellantis, which operates one of Europe's largest car assembly plants in the city, has committed €1.1 billion to converting the facility for electric vehicle production. The transformation requires extensive new construction including battery assembly halls, high-voltage electrical infrastructure, and waste management facilities complying with the latest EU industrial emissions standards.
Residential construction in Zaragoza is also gathering pace, driven by population growth linked to new employment in the logistics and manufacturing sectors. The city council has approved a new urban development zone — Valdespartera Norte — which will accommodate 8,700 new homes over the next seven years. The development is structured around a district heating network powered by geothermal energy, the first of its kind at this scale in Aragon.
The Aragon Regional Construction Federation reports that despite the busy pipeline, the sector is managing supply chain pressures better than in previous cycles. Strategic stockpiling, early contractor engagement, and the increasing use of locally manufactured precast concrete elements have helped stabilise lead times and reduce exposure to import price volatility.
